Fine-Tuning Awareness: 30 Steps Into Wisdom
Being mindful of the moment can be a natural trait, but it is also an art that everyone can train and surely can be improved over and over again. Through this course, we will deepen in finer detail the experience to be present.
What is a moment?
It is the shortest movement or change you can perceive. So the more your perception is fine-tuned, the shortest the moment can become or the more moments you can detect in the same amount of time. This capacity allows you to become more and more aware of everything that’s happening right now inside of you (thoughts, emotions, sensations). Ideally there’s no end to the fine-tuned attention you can give to reality. Here we will try to train our mind to be more and more present, till we can flow with life with no resistance at all. This might seem a far-fetched goal, but I’m sure you might have already experienced that state, that maybe passed unnoticed. For example, when watching a sunset or some form of beauty and the space-time references vanish and there is just the experience with no thinking or emotions involved, just peace and being present to the experience.
And what is the purpose to develop such a mind?
Developing awareness deeper and deeper.
Imagine to know every thought, emotion or sensation arising in your consciousness right now. You would be able, for example, to catch a rising desire: let’s say the wish to have a coffee or a pizza. And you would be aware of it in the moment, thus cutting the immediate reactivity that usually follows an impulse: in this example go and have a coffee or eat something not out of real hunger. Thoughts, as everything inside and outside of us, change and move and we don’t have to passively act repeatedly to conditioned behaviour like a non-conscious being. We can, on the contrary, decide what is safe and wholesome for ourselves and others, based on higher knowledge than basic impulses.
Wisdom consists in knowing at every single moment what’s right for ourselves and others because we are in deep contact with reality and immediately feel what is good and what is not good, not based on thinking or reflection, which can take some time, but instantly knowing from wise attention.
